Details

A coming-of-age novelist who has created a series of books focusing on mental health, child abuse, and working-class life. The books are written to help those who need it, raise awareness of unseen abuse, and generate funds to help those in need.

I love writing, even though my story is one of first hand experiences, it is still a passion and I enjoy every moment of it. I am a firm believer that writing as therapy is one of the best ways to overcome PTSD and the side effects of an abusive upbringing. I am a confident public speaker and very much enjoy getting on the stage for an engaging talk, and then some healthy discussion afterwards.

I'm available within my local community of Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire, and surrounding areas, and I can offer virtual events for schools further afield.

Options available: Half Day Visit / Full Day Visit / Virtual Sessions

*School assembly- Discussing the journey of an author, the importance of writing, and mental health awareness

*Discussion groups- as above or based on one of my titles ie: Growing Pains - What parts of the book did you find most controversial/frustrating

*Behind the books group sessions- A chance to discuss the writing process, come up with ideas and brainstorm worldbuilding for that project

*Read along with Q&A session

Book reviews-

‘Growing Pains is profoundly affecting. This is social realism at its most urgent and humane.’

Tommy Sissons

Editor-in-Chief Grass Magazine

‘Growing Pains broke my heart in all the right places, Alex’s story is beautifully told and speaks volumes that emotional abuse can echo through a lifetime. A stunning debut.’

Bestselling Author

Books by Joseph Ball

Having signed my first publishing contract in 2025, I released my first novel in February 2026. The second part of the four-part Growing Pains series will be released in November 2026, with the third part due for early 2027. The books document the coming of age story of Alexander, a young boy navigating a world of abuse and bullying. Some profits go towards children's protection charities such as Young Minds
